or the past 9 years I have served as your Sheriff. This year also began my 24th year at the Bennington County Sheriff’s Office. While serving as your sheriff I have been heavily involved in the community. I’ve been president of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of directors at the Bennington Rescue Squad, the 204 Depot program, and the Sacred Heart School board. This engagement in the community has allowed me to network with other community members and given me a number of resources to utilize as Sheriff.
I have continued my education over the years and most recently in 2016 I graduated from Columbia Southern University with an MBA in public administration. Additionally, I have benefited from first-hand knowledge within this department. This makes me uniquely qualified to continue as Sheriff.
In the 9 years as Sheriff I have guided this agency on a new path. Some of the most visible changes have included a new cruiser design, new uniform colors, and a new headquarters on Route 7. I’ve taken steps with our “go green” initiatives by converting cruisers to propane, installing insulation and LED lighting in our new building to save on heating and cooling costs, partnered with a Vermont based solar company to help Vermont achieve its renewable energy goals, reduced our paper consumption by automating our processes and using on-line services. All while saving the department and the County money.
We trained Deputies on the use of Narcan to help save people who have overdosed on opiates. We continue to support a full-time deputy in the Southern Vermont Drug Task force to help root out major drug dealers. We continue to provide and subsidize an investigator at the States Attorney’s office to help with domestic violence and other abuse cases. Most recently we trained K-9 Millie to search for drugs, track suspects, perform search and rescue, building searches and more. We developed and help implement the prescription drug take back model throughout the county to help rid homes of unused narcotics and opiates.
My wife Jaime and I are proud parents of three wonderful children, Hayden, Sophia-lyn and Madelyn. We kindly ask for your support on August 14th in the primary election. Thank you all for the opportunity you have given me as Sheriff of Bennington County. I look forward to continuing to serve you as your Sheriff.
